Waterproofing - Impermax Impermax is a new liquid waterproofing material which,
after polymerisation, forms an elastomeric Polyurethane
membrane, resisting UV rays and capable of handling severe
building movements and deformations.

|
Impermax may be very easily applied onto different surfaces (concrete, mortar, brick, ceramics, bituminous membranes, steel, zinc, aluminium), providing a continuous membrane which resists outdoors exposure, and has excellent adhesion.
Compared to traditional liquid waterproofing membranes, IMPERMAX offers the following advantages:
- Water resistant - Impermax can be in permanent contact with water (it does not emulsify). This product is also certified for contact with drinking water for human consumption according to European Directive 98/83/CE.
- Fast curing (even at low temperatures and high relative humidity, especially when used with PUR CAT ADDITIVE).
- Allows pedestrians to walk directly onto it, without any need for additional protection.
- Impermax does not require any internal reinforcement e.g., from nets or non-wovens (geotextile), although this may be beneficial in very exposed areas.
- Its shiny, non-thermoplastic finish avoids dust adherence and membrane softening in hot periods.
Impermax may be applied using conventional methods (e.g., rolls, brush and airless systems) and does not require any special blending as it is a single component product.
Applications:
- Balconies, terraces.
- Bathrooms, showers, wet rooms, kitchens and difficult to access spots.
- Flooring for pedestrian traffic.
- Stairs, stadiums.
- Water channels and reservoirs.
Advantages:
- Excellent adhesion to most surfaces.
- Resistant to movements and cuts in substrates.
- Resistant to impact and abrasion.
- Excellent resistance to water and to micro-organisms.
- Resistant to variations in temperature - IMPERMAX membrane keeps its characteristics in temperatures between - 50 ºC and + 100 ºC.
- Impermax is 100% waterproof, but allows vapour to diffuse through it.
- Great resistance to chemical agents (cleaning products etc.).
Summary of Properties:
Allows heavy pedestrian traffic.
Totally stable to "basic" elements (such as concrete).
High resistance to outdoors and to UV rays.
Non-slip.
Elastic.
Anti-dust.
Stable in water even in permanent contact.
Product certified under 98/83/CE Directive for products in contact with human
consumption (Drinking) water.
Can be applied at low temperatures / high relative humidity
environments.
Application Guidelines:
Impermax must be applied in quantities ranging from 1.5 kg/m2 to 2 kg/m2, to give a membrane thickness of 1.4mm to 1.9 mm.
Ideally, it should be applied in 2 separate coats, in different colours, to ensure enough quantity of each layer is applied.
It is important to mix the product well before application, with an electric mixer, at low rpm (avoiding too much air entering the resin). It is also necessary to let the product rest for a few minutes so that air bubbles disappear.
It is possible to add up to 10% of solvents (see Rayston Solvent data sheet), in order to reduce the viscosity of the product
Impermax may be applied in cold / humid weather. If rain falls just before the product cures, it will not interfere with the quality of the membrane, although rain drops may leave marks on the surface, which may require a final coat to even them out.
In case of very low temperatures, or if it is important to have a very short cure time, it is also recommended that Rayston's PUR CAT accelerant (see Technical Data Sheet) is used.
Product dilution and material cleaning should be with solvents and it is advised that Krypton Chemical solvents are used.
